Terminology

Types of Doors

Slab - Door slab only, no frame, Usually for replacement doors or for use in a pocket door frame.

Single Prehung - One door slab, machined and prehung in an assembled jamb frame.

Double Prehung - Two door slabs, machined and prehung in an assembled jamb frame.

Bifold Doors - Two or four doors that pivot on the edge and fold in the center.  Usually used in closets.

Bypass Doors - Two doors that slide on an overhead track and can be pushed to either side of the frame.

Pocket Doors - A door slab on a track that slides into the wall on a track.

Types of Frames

 Split Jamb Frame - A frame that comes with casing mitered and applied to each side and is seperated behind the door stop for easy installation.

 Flat Jamb Frame - A traditional jamb with applied door stop. Casing can be applied to one side of the frame and assembled but shipped loose on the other side.

 

Determining the Swing of Your Door:

Rough Opening Sizes:

For standard prehung doors and bifolds with frames add 2" to the door width and 2 1/2" to the door height for the rough opening.

For Bypass doors with frames add 1" to the width and 2 1/2" to the height.  This will allow for a 1" overlap between the two doors.
